Celebrating Troika Danielle Jackson-Grillo: A Beacon of Faith and Hope

In the heart of our community, there lives a remarkable individual – Troika Danielle Jackson-Grillo. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, Troika is not only making waves in her profession but also setting a beautiful example of faith and resilience. Her journey through life is a testament to the power of love, determination, and the unwavering belief in God. Troika’s spiritual roots run deep. She attended Catholic school from kindergarten all the way through college. Interestingly, her family follows the Baptist tradition. After moving on from her school days, Troika found her new spiritual home at Hampton Evangelistic Center in Hampton, VA. There, she blossomed in her faith, culminating in a powerful experience on February 2, 1992, when she received the Holy Ghost. This moment marked a significant change in her life, and she became an active member of the church community, singing in the mass choir and women’s choir. She also enjoyed taking part in praise and worship, reflecting the joy she finds in her relationship with Jesus. Today, Troika’s spiritual journey continues, even though she currently does not have a home church. She believes that her connection to God remains strong, allowing her to guide others in their own spiritual quests. Troika envisions leaving behind a legacy for the next generation that showcases the hands and feet of God and serves as evidence of His reality. For Troika, faith is not only about personal belief; it’s about action and service to others. As a CA-licensed marriage and family therapist, Troika provides online telehealth services, helping people navigate their emotional and mental challenges. Her work impacts many by offering a safe place where individuals can learn to heal and grow. Troika’s experiences and the wisdom she has gained allow her to connect deeply with her clients, making her an invaluable asset to her field. She encourages everyone to “let go,” reminding them that releasing burdens can lead to a more fulfilling life. One of Troika’s guiding lights has always been her favorite Bible verse, the 23rd Psalm. Meant to comfort and inspire, it has been her anchor through numerous life trials, including the loss of her mother at a young age and her experiences during Desert Storm. The verse reassures her that goodness and mercy will follow her all the days of her life, a sentiment she cherishes deeply. This wisdom speaks volumes about her resilient spirit and hopeful outlook. In every endeavor, Troika demonstrates that faith and action can coexist beautifully. Her story is one of perseverance, hope, and a genuine desire to serve others. Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
