Meet Ronnie Guion: A Beacon of Light in Our Community

What would you like your audience to know about you? For Ronnie Guion, it’s simple—a life of service and purpose. He stands out as a dedicated community member with an unwavering passion for helping others and fostering faith. Dreaming big and acting kindly, Ronnie believes that by investing in people, he contributes to building a stronger, kinder community.

Ronnie Guion isn’t just any member of his community; he’s a person on a mission. As he puts it, his purpose is “to serve,” and he actively embodies this by feeding the poor, supporting the homeless, and striving to make a positive impact on those around him. His tireless efforts remind us all that one person can make a sizable difference, and that together, we can elevate our community through love and support.

Faith is at the core of everything Ronnie does. “I’m a son of the Most High God,” he proudly states. For him, a firm belief in Jesus Christ fuels his life’s mission. Balancing his roles as a husband and father, he works daily to honor his faith and inspire his family. As one of the elders at Mariners Church, Ronnie finds joy not just in prayer and healing, but in the transformative experience of witnessing people accept Jesus as their Savior. To him, serving in the church is a way to advance the kingdom of God and allow others to experience the love he feels in his heart.

When asked about his strengths, Ronnie attributes them to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, which grants him discernment—the ability to sense sincerity and intention in others. Through this gift, he believes he can better serve the community around him. He holds close the advice: “Trust God and leave all the consequences to Him,” a mantra that helps him face daily challenges with courage and faith.

Reflecting on his journey, Ronnie has insightful advice for the youth in our community: start saving early and be mindful of spending. “Make sure you don’t have more money going out than you’ve got coming in,” he emphasizes. Building good financial habits now can create a brighter future. He also encourages young people to adopt a “godly view” of life as opposed to a “worldly view,” which he believes can often lead to chaos and confusion. In his eyes, embracing faith and seeking divine guidance can provide solutions to many of today’s struggles.

Ronnie’s ultimate goal is one that resonates deeply—he hopes to leave a legacy of love and devotion. “When I take my last breath, I want people to say, ‘There goes a man that really loved his God,’” he shares with heartfelt sincerity. His desire to be remembered as a man committed fully to his faith, family, and community exemplifies the kind of impact each of us can strive to achieve. Ronnie Guion is indeed a beacon of light in our community, inspiring us all to live with purpose, love, and devotion.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
