Celebrating Monique McCartha: A Trailblazer in Entertainment and Community Enrichment

Monique McCartha, the dynamic founder of Melanin Monarchy LLC, is dedicated to keeping the wheels of creativity turning all year round. With a mission to have a production constantly underway, be it a film, TV show, book, play, or cartoon, Melanin Monarchy is a vibrant force on the cultural landscape.

Since 2020, Monique has been making notable strides as a writer and producer, catalyzing significant enhancements in local artistic pursuits across San Diego. Energized by a buildup of her written works and the realization that no “Big Time Producer” would discover her passive collection, Monique took a proactive leap into full-fledged involvement.

Holding a BA in English Literature from the University of Michigan, complemented by an MBA obtained in 2011, her academic foundation has been pivotal in shaping her professional journey and community contributions.

“I Love Outcomes – seeing Artist’s work come to fruition. I Love that I help Creatives see their work on Film or the Stage.”

This passion for tangible results drives Monique’s commitment in her dual role as a service provider for local artists and a producer cultivating lively entertainment venues focused on bands like Depeche Mode.

Monique’s community commitment is powered by three core principles: decisive decisions, building connections, and celebrating small victories, setting a roadmap for others aspiring to make an impact.

Her advice to budding creators and community advocates resonates with simplicity and conviction: “Just get started, don’t compare, and keep going”. Even amid financial challenges and the occasional mismatch in values and integrity within collaborations, Monique champions problem-solving and clear communication.

As for her legacy, while still in the making, Monique hopes to leave a lasting imprint of love and support in the hearts of many, mirroring the encouragement she’s received from loved ones, particularly her supportive brother.

Monique McCartha is not just a name listed among local entrepreneurs and creatives; she is a beacon of inspiration, guiding the next generation towards faith, integrity, and relentless pursuit of their passions.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
