Jacqueline Crawford: A Guiding Light in Our Community

Meet Jacqueline Crawford, a dedicated leader and an inspiring figure in both her church and professional life. A resident of Oceanside, Jacqueline is known for her continuous efforts to serve her community through her role at Mariners Church. As the Next Steps Group Leader, she helps individuals take meaningful steps forward on their spiritual journey. No matter your background, Jacqueline’s story is sure to inspire you to seek out your own personal growth and reflect on how you can make a positive impact on the community.

Jacqueline’s connection to faith began early in life. Growing up in a Christian household, she attended Catholic school from first grade through her senior year of high school. However, her true spiritual awakening came at age 18, when she chose to be baptized. Jacqueline shares that her parents wanted this to be her decision—a conscious choice to commit her life to Christ. After her baptism, her journey continued, and she dove deeper into understanding the Word of God. Her growth accelerated when she joined a small women’s group, which not only expanded her knowledge of the Bible but also strengthened her faith even further.

A significant chapter in Jacqueline’s spiritual journey unfolded at Mariners Church in Oceanside. “Going through ‘Rooted’ truly enhanced my knowledge and understanding of God’s Word,” she said. “The experience of completing it alongside my sisters in Christ made it all the more powerful.” Today, she continues to serve Mariners Church as a group leader, helping others follow the path that God has set for them. Her role is central to guiding people who are looking to deepen their faith and take the next steps in life.

Outside of the church, Jacqueline has built an impressive career in the Federal government as a Financial Management Specialist. Her primary responsibility is to ensure all personnel are paid accurately and in a timely manner—a vital role in any organization. Reflecting on her career, she advises her younger self, and all of us, “Know your job well, ask questions if you’re unsure, and always strive to fully understand each task you’re assigned.” This wise counsel extends beyond the workplace; it’s advice that can guide us all in academics and daily life.

When asked what legacy she hopes to leave behind, Jacqueline’s answer is firmly rooted in service: “The legacy I would like to leave is to help and serve others in their time of need, and empower them with words of encouragement, love, and trust in God. He will never leave us or forsake us. It’s important to believe in that truth and never give up on the journey and path God has for us.”

A Bible verse—Deuteronomy 31:8—sums up her outlook perfectly: “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Jacqueline Crawford has made it her mission to live by this verse, creating a ripple of positive influence in the lives of those around her.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
