Celebrating Principal Eileen Frazier: A Champion for Education

In the heart of Oceanside, one individual stands tall as a beacon of hope and leadership: Principal Eileen Frazier. Nominated by an anonymous community member, Eileen’s impactful journey through education showcases her unwavering dedication to empowering students and shaping future leaders. Born in Maryland in 1971 and raised in a military family, Eileen’s life took root in Oceanside when her father enlisted in the Marine Corps. Starting her educational journey at North Terrace Elementary and progressing through local schools, Eileen graduated as the Salutatorian of her class at Oceanside High School (OHS) in 1988. Eileen’s academic prowess paved the way for her to attend the University of California San Diego, where she earned a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and a teaching credential. Returning to her alma mater, Eileen spent nine years teaching math at OHS before moving into administrative roles. Her journey has included significant positions such as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at OHS, Principal at Jefferson and Cesar Chavez Middle Schools, and finally, Principal at El Camino High School—her greatest and latest venture. Under her leadership, El Camino has become a thriving environment that emphasizes core values: Perseverance, Empathy, Respect, Responsibility, and Collaboration (PERRC). Eileen believes in the power of education and relationships, stating, “Leadership is not only about educating students; it is more about relationships.” This commitment to connecting with her students and staff has made her a beloved figure in the community. Her accolades speak volumes about her exceptional contributions to education. In 2021, Eileen was honored with the title of Secondary Principal of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators. This recognition highlights her relentless efforts to bring innovative opportunities to students, ensuring they have access to advanced courses and extracurricular activities that foster personal growth. Eileen’s love for her community extends beyond education. Living in Oceanside with her husband Greg and their two children, she treasures the bond of family and the joy of giving back. “I strive to be a servant leader,” she says, echoing her belief that education is about more than just academics—it’s about nurturing compassionate citizens who will lead future generations. As we embark on a new school year, Eileen continues to inspire everyone around her, inviting students to engage, contribute, and excel in an ever-evolving world. Her passion for learning and leading is evident in her message to El Camino’s students, urging them to embody the school’s core values and take pride in their community. Principal Eileen Frazier’s story is one of determination, compassion, and unwavering commitment to education. Celebrating her as one of Oceanside’s finest reminds us all of the positive impact one person can have on an entire community. As high schoolers and middle schoolers look to their futures, they are fortunate to have a leader like Eileen Frazier guiding them, reminding them to “PERRC up!” and always aim for success.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
