Celebrating Ticey Hosley: A Champion of Change and Financial Literacy

In our community, individuals often work in the shadows, quietly making a monumental difference without seeking recognition. One local hero shining brightly is Ticey Hosley. Nominated by an anonymous community member, Ticey is a lifelong advocate championing diversity, equity, and inclusion, transforming lives through her passion and knowledge.

With over 20 years of experience, Ticey Hosley has dedicated her life to reshaping cultures and integrating inclusive strategies into everyday interactions. As the founder of Stocks for Everyday People, a non-profit organization, she empowers individuals from historically marginalized backgrounds by providing essential financial literacy education. Ticey’s mission is to bridge the gap in financial knowledge, ensuring others don’t face the same struggles she overcame in her youth.

Growing up in a low-income household, Ticey was unaware of fundamental financial concepts like budgeting, credit management, and investing. This lack of exposure defined her early life, leading her to focus solely on survival. However, as she embraced her educational career, she became increasingly aware of the disparities surrounding financial knowledge. This recognition lit a fire within her, prompting Ticey to build a stronger financial foundation not only for herself but also for her children and community.

Ticey’s dedication manifested in the form of Stocks for Everyday People, where she created innovative programs designed to educate and engage community members. “Your team will be engaged! Your team will be enlightened! Your team will be empowered!” she asserts passionately, underscoring the organization’s transformational impact.

Beyond financial literacy, Ticey’s skills in facilitating discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion make her a crucial asset to any community. As noted by Dr. David Inniss, founder of UNYSUN INC., “Ticey is a highly-talented facilitator who thrives in developing training experiences that uplift, invigorate and empower.” Her commitment to creating spaces for growth and understanding reflects her belief in serving not just individuals, but her community as a whole.

Personal testimonials emphasize her remarkable influence. Lynn Neault, Chancellor of Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College, stated, “Dr. Hosley educates and motivates audiences of all levels to commit to bold change and dismantling biased structures and systems.” With every interaction, Ticey works tirelessly to nurture understanding and support that lifts the community.

Moreover, her colleagues recognize her profound spirit and dedication. Tiffany Hungerford from Grossmont Community College shares, “I know that Dr. Hosley is a person sent here to help heal humanity. I appreciate her so much for her work and her heart.”

As Ticey continues her mission, she is not just a teacher; she is a beacon of hope for many who are striving for a more equitable future. Her journey from financial struggle to empowerment showcases the difference one person can make. Ticey Hosley’s story is a testament to the power of knowledge and the enduring impact it can have when shared within a community.

Let us celebrate Ticey Hosley, a true advocate for change whose mission to educate and empower is illuminating the path toward a brighter future for all.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
