Celebrating Thomas Howard: A Voice for Humanity

In our local community, individuals rise to define not just their careers but their very ethos. One such figure is Thomas Howard, known to many as DJ Doc. Since the inception of his media company, R.O.C. Media, in 2014, Thomas has dedicated himself to promoting positivity and innovation through various platforms, particularly his podcast “Straight Talk with DJ Doc.” His vision? To foster a culture of caring among us all. With a passion for highlighting the importance of community, Thomas believes that we can enhance humanity by genuinely caring for one another. “When I started my business, my ultimate goal was to create a culture of caring real wide,” he says, “because people need to care about one another more so that we can all thrive.” This philosophy permeates everything he does, reaching out to both businesses and individuals so they can share their stories and services effectively. But how does one go about impacting their community to such an extent? For Thomas, it involves leveraging his tech-savvy skills and knowledge of advertising and marketing, honed through dedicated study and experience. His ability to manage time effectively has also played a crucial role. Yet, the core of his success lies in his heartfelt connection with clients, who often share how their participation in his podcast has led to new opportunities across the globe. The idea for R.O.C. Media emerged from a need for authentic representation in mainstream media. “We felt that mainstream media wasn’t presenting the correct take on many local events,” Thomas explains. This determination to tell real stories through media saw him covering red carpet events, grand openings, and movie premieres, giving local talents the spotlight they truly deserve. Thomas credits much of his insight and resolve to his mother, who raised him as a single parent while encouraging him to chase his dreams. She taught him the importance of perseverance and self-belief, messages he now shares with the younger generation. “Start your journey of entrepreneurship early,” he urges. “Think about the field you want to get into and how it will look 5 to 10 years from now.” It’s this forward-thinking mindset that has become a vital part of his teachings as a business coach. As Thomas continues to expand his reach and influence, he emphasizes the importance of mentorship. “Find yourself a mentor in the field so that you can learn from them,” he advises. This not only helps avoid common pitfalls but also fosters a sense of accountability—a principle crucial in any industry. One of Thomas’s proudest achievements? The moments when his clients come back excited to share that they’ve gained interest from places as far as another state or country. “It makes the hard work worthwhile,” he reflects with pride. Ultimately, Thomas Howard hopes to leave behind a legacy of multiple income streams that benefit his children. His unwavering commitment to enhancing the community and fostering connections is a testament to the passion he has for both his work and the people around him. It is this blend of charisma, dedication, and ingenuity that makes Thomas a shining example of what it means to truly care.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
