Stephane Wallace | Technical Analyst | Retirement Plan Services Department
What do you do?
I’m a Technical Analyst (TA) in our Retirement Plan Services department – focusing specifically on nonqualified plans. As a TA, I am responsible for processing a variety of client requests, managing online enrollment processes for several plans, and periodically reviewing policies, procedures, and training materials to ensure we are operating efficiently and in compliance with all IRS regulations.
What do you love about your job?
I most like the sense of community on our team. As a hybrid team comprised of members in varying roles and located in two sites, we do a great job of building camaraderie and banding together to take care of our clients. I also like that there are continual opportunities to learn different aspects of my job.
What’s the biggest positive lesson you’ve learned in your career field?
I’ve learned that a formal education may open doors to opportunities; but a zest for lifelong learning and, more importantly, recognizing the need to connect with people from various backgrounds will give one the courage to walk through those doors.
I’ve also learned that it’s ok for one’s career to appear more like a “jungle gym than a ladder.” As one who started out as an individual contributor, had a brief stint as an acting supervisor, and then moved back to individual contributor roles, I was tempted to think that I’d “gone backwards in my career.” However, I had to realize that I can lead from a cubicle as well as I can from an office. If I’m moving the business forward while encouraging and helping others to do the same, I’m leading.
