Community Spotlight: Rasheeda Parr – A Champion of Empowerment

This month, we shine a spotlight on an inspiring figure in our community—Rasheeda Parr. Nominated by an anonymous community member, Rasheeda is not just a mother of four boys and a proud grandmother; she’s also the founder of Empowered Women Networking Inc. Her tenacity and dedication to uplifting others truly deserve to be celebrated.

Born and raised in Oceanside, Rasheeda graduated from California State University San Marcos with a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance. Her academic background laid a solid foundation for her remarkable career in the financial world. With over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Accounting, and financial operations, Rasheeda has contributed her expertise to both corporate and non-profit organizations. Currently, she serves as the Chief Financial Officer at the Women’s Resource Center of Oceanside, where she plays an essential role in empowering women throughout the community.
But her achievements don’t end there. Rasheeda is also the proud owner of UP2Parr LLC, a business consulting and resource company dedicated to helping others navigate their entrepreneurial journeys. Her commitment to women’s empowerment led her to establish Empowered Women Networking Inc., a non-profit organization focused on providing free and low-cost resources and education to women in Oceanside. This organization is a safe space for anyone from established businesswomen to those looking to share their passion and serve the community.“At Empowered Women Networking, we believe that every woman holds the power to make a difference,” Rasheeda explains passionately. “Our monthly member meetings aim to connect women, enabling them to learn from each other and grow both personally and professionally.” Whether navigating the complexities of business or seeking support, women in the community find a strong ally in Rasheeda.

In addition to her work as a leader and mentor, Rasheeda serves on the finance team as Associate Director of Financial Operations for Moishe House, which brings supportive communities to young adults. Her dedication doesn’t go unnoticed—her roles as Co-President of EC Paws and mentorship with the NCAAWA speak volumes about her passion for service.Yet, in the face of her growing responsibilities, Rasheeda battles cancer with a courageous spirit. Her determination to contribute to the community despite her challenges is nothing short of inspirational. While all her achievements are remarkable, it’s her unwavering desire to uplift those around her that truly sets her apart.

“Giving back and making a difference are what fuel me,” Rasheeda shared during a recent interview. “I find joy in helping others see their potential and thrive.” It is this ethos that resonates with the younger generation—encouraging them to take part in meaningful community service.

Rasheeda Parr is not only a pillar of strength but also a beacon of hope and encouragement for our community. Her incredible journey reminds us that with determination and compassion, we can all contribute to a brighter future.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
