Celebrating Creativity: The Journey of Randy Smith

In the heart of our community lies a hidden gem, a writer, lyricist, and poet who is crafting meaningful connections through words. Meet Randy Smith, a humble wordsmith whose artistry is beginning to ripple through our local scene, creating waves of inspiration along the way.

Randy’s journey into the literary world began quite unexpectedly. While out with a friend at a bar, he offered a compassionate ear and advice during tough times. His heartfelt words caught the attention of another patron, who requested help with a text message. This moment sparked an idea in Randy’s mind—with a little encouragement from his friend, he dove into the world of ghostwriting, and what started as a casual encounter transitioned into a heartfelt calling.

As an emerging voice in writing, Randy believes that his impact may seem small now, but he envisions a future where his words leave a lasting imprint. “My impact isn’t seismic,” he admits, “but the ripples that I am making will cause a flood someday.” With each poem crafted and each lyric penned, Randy seeks to evoke genuine emotion in others. He finds joy in translating the feelings of his clients into heartfelt written pieces, particularly in the art of poetry. “It’s a journey,” he explains, “growing my perspectives on everything from simple pleasures to crippling indecisiveness.”

Despite not feeling a need for fame, Randy desires to be known for the authenticity of his work. He shares that the best advice he’s received is, “Don’t overthink it,” a mantra he applies not only to writing but to life’s many challenges. “Good times fade, but so do the bad ones,” he reminds us, embodying the wisdom and resilience that young people today can draw from.

For those aspiring to make an impact, Randy stresses the importance of courage, honesty, and vulnerability. “The challenge of sharing your voice can feel daunting, but embracing your truth is key to connection,” he advises. His own journey has not been without obstacles, but each hurdle has shaped his path. Whether it’s navigating self-doubt or finding the right words, Randy perseveres, fueled by a desire to uplift others through his craft.

As a creative in a world that often overlooks the importance of emotional connections, Randy hopes to build a legacy where his work remains cherished in the hearts of those who encounter it. He is not just writing for himself but for the community that resonates with his messages. “I hope that people genuinely enjoy my work,” he reflects.

Randy’s influence extends beyond mere entertainment; it offers a lifeline to feelings that many deem too complex to articulate. With every poem shared and every lyric created, he inspires his audience—especially the younger generation—to find strength in vulnerability and power in authenticity. Celebrate the vibrant journey of Randy Smith, a testament to the beauty of self-expression and connection through words. Who knows, his story might just inspire you to start your own!

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
