Debut author, Rachelle West artfully brings to life her innate ability to persevere with Patrick’s story. A Denver, Colorado native who has endured loss, pain and many dark days leverages her healing craft of illustration to spread light. West has an impeccable ability to find triumph after tribulation as she suffered the loss of her parents at a young age and is a gun shot wound survivor. Throughout these traumas, her enduring spirit and steadfast perseverance have been her North Star. Rachelle’s goal as an artist is to marry her talents as an educator and illustrator to inspire families by introducing perseverance as an early life lesson. West is a proud mother of three who encourages her children to be the best version of themselves no matter what curveballs life may throw. This story sows the seeds of resilience in the hearts of those who need it the most. Her dedication to uplift and inspire others expands far beyond the pages of her book. Rachelle currently works full time as a host home provider, assisting members of the special needs community. This book allows Rachelle to expand her horizons outside of her core career and answer the calling over her life to be a source of uplift for others.

Rachelle hopes that parents and children alike will find inspiration in Patrick’s ability to persevere despite his socially awkward nature and loner behaviors. In the end, West has learned it is the same quirks that make us different that also make us special. Rachelle is committed to seeing life as one big, great adventure. In her limited spare time, she is an avid fan of biking, basketball and hiking. As an ambitious, spontaneous and adventurous hustler, Rachelle wants to motivate readers of all ages to pursue their dreams with childlike abandon. What role do you play in your Industry?
  • A creative, self published author and illustrator. I have become an inspiration and motivation for the youth. I give them courage in hope to Persevere and go for their dreams.

What year did you start in your industry?

  • I published my first book August 2021.

What Certifications, Degrees, Titles and Experience do you have in your industry?

  • I am just a creative naturally, I've always had the passion to draw and write children's stories. I definitely feel like it is my calling. I've drawn since a kid, it was my escape from my reality. I learned to use my imagination. I'm a newbie in the industry.

Why & How did you get involved in your industry?

  • I invested in my dream, Self published.

What do you love most about your role in your industry?

  • I definitely love to see the reactions from the children once they read my book. To be able to give them hope, courage, and inspiration. It is imperative that the youth know what believing in yourself can actually do for you. I praise God for the opportunity to sharemy gift to uplift others.

What is the best advice you have received about how to impact your industry?

  • The Best advice I have received was when you're following your dreams. Move with intention, and to remember it is purpose over profit. Sew good seeds and to support others on their journey as well.

What do you think are the top 3 things that help people excel in your industry?

  • I believe the top three things are: Innovation Marketing Building a connection to the reader/Target audience

What encouragement would you give to those who are interested in being in your industry?

  • I would tell them to just go for it. That's with anything in life, as well as not being afraid to invest in yourself. Figure out how you would like to get published or what publishing company you'd like to work with. Make sure your manuscript is professionally edited and marketable (something people would want to read). Submit your book to as many publishers as possible if that is the route you'd like to take. Make sure you have an personal professional editor. Take your time with your material don't rush it.

What do you think is the most important qualities for people to have in your industry?

  • I definitely believe it is imperative to be authentic. Authenticity along with creativity draws the target audience and keeps them wanting more. As well as being innovative while keeping in mind want your target audience is looking for. Researching the best selling books on market and making it work for you with an unique approach.

What obstacles have you overcome, or are you overcoming to excel in your industry?

  • The most challenging thing for me has been the marketing, especially due to COVID-19. I have not been able to have a book tour because of all the different regulations. As well working as my own PR (personal relations) representative. That is beauty of building from the mud.

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?

  • I'm a proud mother of three and to be able to show my children that following your dreams and making them come true with God it is possible. As well as having a commercial on PBS kids and Walmart picking my book up. I feel extremely blessed!

Who is is one person that has influenced your direction in life? Explain How.

  • I honestly don't have just one person that influenced me. I would say my two older siblings, and father James West Sr. Watching them pursue their dreams and having the resiliency to never give up regardless of the many obstacles they might have faced. They definitely gave me the courage to go for my dreams.

What advice would you give to the younger generation?

  • I would tell the younger generation to never stop believing in themselves. Surround yourself around people who challenge you and hold you accountable. People who are in the industry you'd like to pursue or people on their way. Never stop dreaming, never listen to the haters, it is what you say about you that matters. Also follow your heart, that one thing that you're passionate about that you can't stop thinking about. It is that one thing you do with the least amount of effort and when you do it, you feel free. That is the thing you should pursue. Last but not least move with faith and not fear.

What do you want your legacy to be?

  • The legacy I'd like to leave is a book series and a cartoon on a major network from my series. I'd like for people to remember my books as being inspirational, uplifting, motivating and encouraging. My books will be an effective positive force for generations to come to reach the youth. By the grace of God.

What else would you like people to know about you?

  • I also have another book coming out soon. My next book is for young black girls and embracing our differences and our culture.
