Celebrating Octavia Wartley-Banks: A Trailblazer in Fashion and Empowerment

Meet Octavia Wartley-Banks: Fashion Icon and Community Role Model

Welcome to a special feature where we spotlight one of the most inspiring figures in our community, Octavia Wartley-Banks. As the visionary founder of Femme La Mode Boutique LLC, Octavia launched her online women’s clothing boutique in February 2022, bringing refreshing and trendy fashion choices right into our homes.

From Military to Fashion Mogul

Before entering the fashion industry, Octavia dedicated years to military service, preparing for life’s next big adventure. Her love for fashion was not newfound; she grew up modeling and working closely with local designers, which naturally carved her path towards launching her boutique. This transition marks not just a career change but also her passion for empowering other women through unique fashion statements.

Empowering Through Entrepreneurship

Octavia’s role goes beyond that of a business owner. She curates clothes that offer something special that cannot be found easily elsewhere, making her a linchpin in the world of exclusive fashion. As she puts it, “Being an owner lets me make decisions that ensure my collections reflect inclusivity and innovation — essentials in today’s fashion industry.”

Words of Wisdom

For Octavia, success is about taking initiative; her best advice to budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts is to “Take the leap! You will not know how things will turn out until you take action of your gift and use it!”. This philosophy coupled with her traits of creativity, authenticity, and relatability are her secrets to making a mark in the fashion world.

Charting the Path Forward

To those aiming to follow in her footsteps, Octavia suggests securing a mentor and remaining persistent. The fashion industry, particularly the online sector, demands continuous improvement and adaptability in marketing strategies to thrive.

Joining the Table

Whether you’re a hopeful designer or a future entrepreneur, remember Octavia’s encouragement, “There is room for you at the table.” It’s a call to all young visionaries to carve their niche and excel, guided by inspiration and driven by determination.

As Octavia Wartley-Banks continues to inspire and lift the spirits of many around her, she remains a beacon of innovative leadership and community involvement that high schoolers and middle schoolers can look up to and learn from.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
