In a world that often feels divided, Moree Sanders stands as a testament to the power of community, creativity, and resilience. Born on April 5, 1961, Moree has dedicated her life to not only excelling in the biotechnology industry but also fostering connections and relationships that uplift those around her.

Moree is connected to Genentech, Inc., a pioneering biotechnology corporation that champions groundbreaking science. More than just a job title, her work embodies her commitment to discovering and developing medicines for life-threatening diseases. With determination and creativity, she represents the spirit of innovation that the biotechnology field demands.

However, Moree’s influence extends far beyond her professional life. As a parent, guardian, spouse, and grandparent, she is dedicated to cultivating an environment rich with positive peer connections, healthy relationships, and essential mental health support. “Serving the common good” is more than a motto for Moree; it is the driving force behind her actions and interactions in the community.

Since 2020, during the challenges of the pandemic, Moree has tapped into her creative side by painting a vibrant mural in her backyard, leading her to explore the world of rock painting. Her creations, which started with fish and Sesame Street characters, now include heartfelt dedication rocks honoring those who have passed, showcasing her artistic expression and emotional connection to family and friends.

Moree recognizes the strengths and potential of her local black community, celebrating its diversity while simultaneously identifying areas for growth. She believes that fostering greater coordination of services, resources, and support will cultivate a stronger sense of unity among residents. Demonstrating her commitment, she became the Community Outreach Coordinator for the African Americans in Biotech (AAIB), working tirelessly to address the specific needs of her community in North County.

Whether supporting events like Juneteenth or distributing backpacks filled with school supplies, Moree embodies a spirit of giving back. Her recent participation in the My Black City interest meeting was a moment of revelation, reminding her that everyone has something valuable to offer. “I felt that evening I had nothing to contribute, but I had something to offer,” she shared, emphasizing the power of community involvement and connection.

Moree’s strength lies not only in her achievements but also in her unwavering commitment to serving others. As she continues to grow, she aims to enhance her communication and public speaking skills, preparing to take on a greater role in inspiring others. Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
