Champion of Change: Celebrating Kern Carson

In a world where challenges can often seem insurmountable, one individual is making monumental strides to uplift his community. Kern Carson, a passionate advocate for drug and alcohol treatment, has dedicated his life to helping others regain their sense of agency and purpose. With unwavering determination, Kern has transformed his personal experiences into a driving force for change, impacting countless lives in the process.

Kern Carson began his journey into advocacy after confronting his own battles with substance abuse. It was during this struggle that he discovered the profound need for accessible resources and support for individuals fighting similar demons. “I want people to know that recovery is possible, and that no one has to navigate this journey alone,” Kern states, embodying the very essence of compassion that characterizes his work.

Starting over a decade ago, Kern has been an instrumental figure in various community outreach programs, focusing on providing education and resources about drug and alcohol abuse. His skills in counseling, community engagement, and public speaking have been crucial in connecting individuals with the help they desperately need. Kern emphasizes that one of the most important qualities for someone in this field is empathy, saying, “To truly make an impact, you must understand where people are coming from.”

Through his efforts, Kern has fostered a sense of hope where despair once reigned. He cherishes every moment spent with those he aids, citing that the most rewarding aspect of his role is witnessing someone reclaim their life. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone begin to believe in themselves again,” he passionately shares.

Among the many lessons Kern has learned on his path, the best advice he received was to “never underestimate the power of listening.” He urges young people who want to carve out a place in the community to engage authentically with others, embracing their stories and challenges.

However, Kern’s journey has not been without obstacles. He recalls facing stigma and skepticism surrounding the notion of recovery, but instead of being deterred, he channeled that energy into advocating for change. “Every challenge is an opportunity for growth,” he reflects. His most significant accomplishment to date includes establishing a local support group that has blossomed into a safe haven for those in need.

Kern credits his journey to the unwavering support from his mentor, who instilled in him the belief that change is possible when we come together. Inspired by this guidance, Kern aims to leave behind a legacy of resilience and empowerment, encouraging young individuals to stand tall as agents of change. “Your voice matters, and your actions can create ripples that lead to a wave of positivity,” he encourages.

As he continues to inspire a new generation, Kern Carson remains a beacon of hope within our community, reminding us all of the profound impact one person can make. Whether you’re considering a career in advocacy or looking to contribute in your own way, remember Kern’s words: “Every step you take towards helping others is a step towards building a stronger, more united community.”

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
