Celebrating Kellie Davis: A Beacon of Change in Our Community

In the heart of our local community, one individual epitomizes the spirit of empowerment and creativity: Kellie Davis. Born on January 17, 1969, Kellie has dedicated her life to fostering engagement, leadership, and artistic expression within her community, especially among the youth. As the owner of MeConceptions and Bridge Visions, Kellie brings her entrepreneurial mindset and her passion for consulting and project management to the forefront, inspiring those around her.

Kellie wears many hats—consultant, project manager, producer, and teaching artist—each role further solidifying her commitment to uplifting others. She is not only a spouse and nurturing family figure but also an advocate for education and community engagement. Through her involvement in various local organizations, including the North County San Diego Womxn’s March and OCCD, she strives to create spaces where diverse voices are heard and valued.

Her strengths shine brightly across her endeavors. With firm faith in the divine, integrity, humor, and a relentless spirit of perseverance, Kellie embodies the traits we all aspire to emulate. She believes in the transformative power of education and community building, and as such, she invests her time and energy into mentoring the next generation. Her creative expressions as a content creator and writer resonate deeply, as evidenced by her play, Transitions, which was recognized with multiple nominations and won two NAACP Theatre Awards. This accomplishment not only showcases her talent but serves as a reminder of the impact one individual can make through storytelling and the arts.

While Kellie has achieved remarkable milestones, she remains grounded in her values. “My hope is to see more community members engaging in politics,” she shares. She encourages others to take up roles in city commissions and boards, advocating that local representation can lead to genuine change. She sees the greatest strength of our local Black community as its passion and entrepreneurial vision, a force she believes can reshape our future.

As Kellie looks ahead, she seeks to establish deeper roots for her family’s success and growth. Her goals include gaining funding and potentially hiring an executive assistant to help streamline her impactful work. More importantly, she aims to get paid for the artistic endeavors she pours her heart and soul into. Kellie advocates for using her unique skill sets to benefit others, and she sees collaboration as a pathway to a thriving community.

By celebrating Kellie Davis, we recognize not just one woman’s journey but a call for all of us—students, artists, leaders, and future changemakers—to contribute to the rich tapestry of our community. Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
