I own a tie dye & jean fashion custom clothing brand! I’m also a college student at UCCS. In this last year my clothing brand, Kween Kreations, has taken off!
I’ve been working with amazing photographers & I’m able to release new designs pretty frequently! I’ve also participated in pop up shops and collaborated with other brands! As a fashion designer I want more fashion coming out of Colorado! There is an abundance of young black designers here and if we all come together we can change the fashion scene! Uniquely enough I am a hippie. My brand represents so many parts of who I am in my day-to-day life.
I aspire to spread more love, more creativity, and of course more eye catching looks!
My Black Colorado Interview
What school do you attend and what year are you in?
I attend the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and I am in my Senior year of college.
What do you think others would say that they like the most about you?
People have often told me that they love my outgoing and easy-going personality. I am loving, talkative, truthful, love to be happy and positive.
When you are not in a class, what are the things you enjoy being involved with?
I enjoy nature! I have hiked various places in Colorado! There are the prettiest sites in Colorado, and also I love seeing new things and traveling to different places!
What is the best advice someone has given you recently?
The best advice I have received recently is to speak life into myself! Society is conditioned to point out one’s flaws, and some do it so much it begins to become real. To combat this negative mentality, I have to speak positivity into myself. For instance, instead of saying, “I’m so broke,” I would say, “money flows to me freely, I am abundant.”
What is one thing you want to get better at?
I want to improve my time management skills. Due to my busy schedule of running my business, successfully fulfilling my educational tasks, and working my day job, I sometimes feel as if there is not enough time in the day.
What do you think is one piece of advice that you think adults need to hear to better connect with the younger generation?Â
The world is a different place than it was 20 years ago.
What accomplishments or awards are you most proud of?
I am most proud of creating my own business! I am the sole designer and owner of Kween Kreations. It is hard work, yet I’m continually learning new techniques to make clothes. I have networked my way into attractive opportunities that have taken my brand to the next level. I am also proud to be a big sister to 3 little brothers. They make me feel like I’m the most important person in the world when I visit them.
What impact have you made in the community that you are most proud of?
I work with a non-profit organization, No Cap Inc. It’s a charity for the people of Colorado Springs. It provides food & hygiene services. I have also worked with Colorado Uplift since the age of 15. In this organization, I can be a youth leader to provide spiritual education and emotional support as they navigate their teenage years.
What do you think you want to do for a career?
I would love to pursue multiple careers. After obtaining my degree in Sociology with a minor in Health Sciences, I will go to Midwifery School. I hope to use my sociology background to dabble in politics, and I would like to advocate for the voices not represented or underrepresented. Lastly, I would love to have multiple Kween Kreation boutiques across the country and style celebrities with my designs.
What role have your parents played in helping you excel in life?
My parents are amazing! They have continuously supported me in all aspects of my life. My parents have tried their best to make it possible if I have wanted to do anything in life. They attend to anything that I am involved in. My parents gave me a foundation of what it means to be loved and have strength and faith in myself. My parents listen to my crazy ideas and do not judge but guide and support me.
