Meet Julanda Davies: A Local Herbal Hero

In a world dominated by quick fixes and big pharmaceutical companies, Julanda Davies stands out as a beacon of hope and health. Since 2016, she has dedicated her life to the study and advocacy of herbal remedies, emerging as a master herbalist and an inspiring teacher in our local community. Her journey began when she faced serious health challenges that conventional medicine couldn’t adequately address. Rather than surrendering to a cycle of medications, Julanda took her health into her own hands, turning a personal quest for wellness into a thriving business known as The Herbal Lady.

Julanda’s story resonates with many, particularly the younger crowd navigating their health journeys. “I was very sick with many ailments, and the medications only masked some symptoms,” she recalls. Determined to find solutions, she began researching Elderberry syrup, a powerful remedy that soon became her ground zero for recovery. Upon witnessing its remarkable effects, Julanda didn’t just stop there; she dove headfirst into studying herbs, earning certifications, and ultimately launching her business.

What she loves most about her role as the owner of The Herbal Lady is the ability to help others discover the wonders of herbal remedies. “I help people navigate through their wellness journeys and offer alternatives to medication provided by big pharma,” she says passionately. Her work is about more than selling products; it’s about empowerment through knowledge. She emphasizes the importance of understanding that there are options available beyond conventional medications, a philosophy she is eager to share.

Julanda’s passion for health and wellness not only stems from her personal experiences but also from the joy she finds in helping others. “Always consider that there are options,” she advises. To those looking to make an impact in the health and wellness community, she suggests three key attributes: study diligently, have a heart to help others, and listen carefully to the needs of the people around you.

Though her path has not been without challenges, Julanda has embraced every obstacle as a stepping stone to her success. She reflects on the journey with pride, recognizing her growth and the relationships she’s built along the way. One individual who significantly influenced her life’s direction is her grandmother, a wise herbalist in her own right. Julanda credits her grandmother for instilling the values of healing and care that drive her mission today.

For younger generations eager to connect more deeply with wellness and herbalism, Julanda offers this encouragement: “Stay curious, ask questions, and always seek out the knowledge that empowers you.” As she looks toward the future, Julanda hopes to leave behind a legacy of holistic health awareness, encouraging an entire generation to embrace their health through natural means.

Julanda Davies is more than just a herbalist; she is a mentor, a healer, and a champion for those seeking alternative paths to wellness. As she continues her remarkable journey, she remains committed to bringing health, knowledge, and balance to our community, and inspiring the next generation to follow in her footsteps.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
