Celebrating Jennifer Natasia Barnes: A Beacon of Financial Empowerment

Meet Jennifer Natasia Barnes, a passionate educator and financial coach who is transforming the way our community approaches wealth and money management. With over 10 years of experience in education and a dedication to financial literacy, she embodies the spirit of empowerment, actively working to break cycles of financial illiteracy and trauma while building paths to generational wealth. Jennifer believes in the power of financial clarity and has spent her career helping students and families understand the nuances of budgeting, saving, and financial decision-making. Through engaging hands-on activities and student-led clubs, she has inspired countless young minds to embrace a holistic approach to financial literacy that goes beyond mere numbers. Taking her passion further, Jennifer ventured into the financial services industry, where she blends practical strategies with an intuitive, holistic approach. With a state license in life insurance and a Master’s degree in Education, she equips individuals with essential tools for financial success while healing money trauma through energy alignment and spiritual financial coaching. “I want to help people create lasting prosperity,” she explains, emphasizing the importance of mindset and the power of intent when it comes to wealth building. Jennifer’s journey toward financial empowerment began from personal adversity. Following a divorce, she became a single mother of three, faced with the responsibility of rebuilding her life and financial foundation. This challenging time inspired her to seek knowledge about money management, ultimately igniting her passion for sharing that knowledge with others facing similar hardships—especially in underserved communities. What drives Jennifer most in her role? “The real difference I make in people’s lives,” she says with steadfast conviction. “I love empowering families toward greater financial security. It’s rewarding to see individuals step into their financial power and transform their futures.” Her leadership in the community demonstrates her unwavering commitment to service and the belief that everyone deserves the chance for a prosperous life. When it comes to offering advice, Jennifer encourages young minds to embrace discomfort as an opportunity for growth. “Be coachable, stay open to feedback, and always remember your ‘why’,” she advises. “This will not only help you overcome challenges but also lead to meaningful contributions in your community.” Her insights serve as a guiding light for students and aspiring leaders alike, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their dreams fearlessly. More than just financial advice, Jennifer’s legacy centers on empowering others to believe in their dreams. “My goal is to inspire individuals to reclaim their power and trust in their unique paths,” she shares. “You are powerful, unique, and enough just as you are.” With this ethos, she nurtures the next generation to see beyond limitations and instead, harness their strengths to create a lasting impact. As we celebrate Jennifer Natasia Barnes, let us take her message to heart: financial literacy is not just a skill—it’s a birthright. Armed with knowledge and confidence, we can all move towards a more prosperous future. So, let’s rise together and step boldly into our power!

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
