Psalm 8:1,3-9

Lord, our Lord,

how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!

You have covered the heavens with your majesty.,

When I observe your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you set in place,

what is a human being that you remember him,

a son of man that you look after him?

You made him little less than God,

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;

you put everything under his feet:

all the sheep and oxen,

as well as the animals in the wild,

the birds of the sky,

and the fish of the sea

that pass through the currents of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,

how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!

As I look at the majesty of creation I feel so small. The beauty, vastness, and complex simplicity overwhelms me. How amazing it all is. I am awed and humbled by God’s love and grace revealed in the order, variety, beauty, and productivity of life within his world.

Yet, I am more amazed by the fact that God thinks enough of us to place the care of life on his earth into our hands. God shares with us the privilege of accounting for the well being of all of the creatures that inhabit his creation. That is why Peter refers to followers of Jesus Christ as  royal representatives of a holy nation.

We help each other honor God’s value for his creation. Recognizing that we are the crown of his creation. This is the work that we train our children for from generation to generation. This is what we help each other do all the days of our life.

As we go about our daily lives we need to regularly remind ourselves that God has freely entrusted us with his glorious, holy, and royal purpose. God has created all of us to thrive as agents of his love for one another and all of the other creatures that fill his good earth. Let’s remember to treat everyone we cross paths with as loved and honored by God. No matter how we feel about them or ourselves, at any given moment.
