Celebrating Eileen Carole: The Creative Voice of Our Community

In the vibrant tapestry of North County’s artistic community, one name shines as a beacon of inspiration and creativity: Eileen Carole. A poet, artist, performer, and writer, Eileen has made it her mission to uplift others through her powerful words and captivating art. Since becoming the Poet Laureate of the North County African American Women’s Association in 2007, she has dedicated herself to positively impacting the lives of many, especially young voices yearning to be heard.

Eileen’s journey into the arts was fueled by her desire to support community outreach efforts, particularly those fostering unity and expression among Black women. “I’ve always been a joiner,” she recalls, “If there’s a chance to support, I’m there.” This commitment to being an active member of her community is echoed in the way she engages with others, always aiming to enhance the environment around her with her art and using her words to touch souls.

One of Eileen’s greatest joys is the ability to impact people through her writing. “The ability to affect someone deeply with words is a gift,” she says passionately. Her work goes beyond mere expression; it encourages others to explore their creativity and find their voices. Eileen believes that networking, participation, and commitment are vital to excelling in the arts. “Join and get involved, look for a mentor,” she advises. This is advice she deeply values, stemming from her experiences with influential figures like Pat Tobin (co-founder of the Black Public Relations Society/Los Angeles and past owner of the largest Black female-owned PR company west of the Mississippi), who inspired her with her networking prowess.

As a dedicated creative, Eileen has also faced challenges along the way, particularly in adapting to the constantly evolving digital landscape. “Knowing how to take advantage of social media has been crucial,” she explains, recognizing the importance of modern tools in sharing her work and connecting with a broader audience.

Eileen’s contributions extend far beyond poetry. She’s served as the chairperson for the Public Relations Advertising Marketing Excellence Awards, co-founded the Black Creative Professionals Association, and is a charter member of the Black Women’s Network/LA. Her role as a historian for the North County African American Women’s Association and the founder of The Writers Corner displays her commitment to documenting and uplifting voices within her community.

Her legacy aspirations are grand yet heartfelt: “I hope to be remembered as a creative voice for our times.” Eileen’s fervent dedication and diverse talents create a ripple effect, inspiring others to pursue artistic paths. For middle and high schoolers looking to carve their own niches, Eileen serves as a shining example of what it means to be involved and impactful.

So, to all young creatives, here’s the takeaway: tap into your passions, connect with those around you, and never underestimate the power of your voice. Eileen Carole embodies this spirit of creativity; let her journey inspire you to explore your unique artistic potential.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
