Spotlight on Dejean Brown: A Visionary Photographer and Community Advocate

In our bustling local community, stories of resilience and creativity are woven into the fabric of everyday life. One such story is that of Dejean Brown, a talented photographer who captures the spirit of our neighborhoods through his lens while passionately giving back to those around him. Born and raised here, Dejean embodies the very essence of what it means to be a community leader, parent, and spouse.

As the proud owner of Dejean Brown Photography, he has influenced countless events and milestones, from jubilant weddings to heartfelt family portraits. With each click of the shutter, Dejean highlights the beauty and uniqueness of our community, reminding us all of the incandescent moments worth celebrating.

Dejean’s artistic endeavors reflect not only his skill but also his deep empathy and inquisitive nature—traits that resonate through his work. “I consider myself an extroverted introvert,” he shares. “I love connecting with people, but I also cherish time for introspection.” This balance helps him understand the narratives and emotions of those he photographs, turning simple images into powerful stories.

Yet, Dejean’s impact extends far beyond his photography business. He recognizes the need for continuous growth and development within our local black community. “Our greatest strength lies in our desire to be of service,” he notes, highlighting the powerful bonds that unite us. However, he also points out the importance of asset awareness—a sense of recognizing and valuing one’s own resources, skills, and contributions. It’s this awareness that Dejean believes can elevate our community even further.

As a devoted family man, Dejean is always striving for balance in his life. He aspires to improve his time and financial management skills, hoping to set a positive example for his family while achieving personal and professional aspirations. “I’m on a quest for intellectual growth,” he says. “Every experience teaches me something new that I can apply to my life and my work.”

Giving back to the community is something Dejean approaches with intention. He often donates his photography services to local organizations, enabling them to showcase their events and initiatives while ensuring they’re presented in the best light possible. It’s this spirit of generosity that speaks volumes about his character and dedication to uplifting those around him.

Through his work in photography and his community involvement, Dejean Brown is not merely a business owner; he is a leader, a mentor, and an inspiration to the youth in our community. For those of you in school, looking to pursue your passions, let Dejean’s story be a testament to the positive impact one person can have through creativity, empathy, and relentless dedication to service. Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
