Celebrating Dedra Green: A Life of Faith and Service

In the vibrant community of Solana Beach, California, Dedra Green stands out as a beacon of faith and commitment. For over two decades, Dedra has dedicated her life to serving both her church and the students at Santa Fe Christian Schools. Her journey of faith began in 1991, and her devotion to God has only strengthened over the years. Despite the ups and downs of life, Dedra remains steadfast, attributing her resilience to the mercy and grace of the Lord.

Dedra’s connection to her local church is deeply rooted. She emphasizes the importance of building a community that partners with Christian families to guide young minds and hearts. As the high school attendance and teacher substitute coordinator at Santa Fe Christian Schools, Dedra plays a significant role in preparing the next generation of Christian leaders. Her work helps students embrace biblical truth, strive for academic excellence, and model Christ-like leadership.

“Our mission is all about influencing homes, churches, and communities for Christ,” she explains. For Dedra, this mission is more than a job; it is her ministry. She feels a calling to help children and young adults honor God and grow closer to Him. Her dedication shines through in everything she does, from her time as a school bus driver to her current position, where she has served for the last three years.

When reflecting on her younger self, Dedra wishes she could offer a piece of advice: “Never cease learning. In all your getting, get understanding, and don’t let fear stop you, because fear is not of God.” These words echo her own life experiences and remind us all of the importance of courage and continuous growth.

Among her favorite Bible verses is Psalm 51, which holds a special place in her heart. “I am a sinner,” she shares, “and I know that I can go to the Lord and plead for mercy.” This verse resonates deeply with her journey, as it encapsulates her belief in God’s love and capacity for redemption. Dedra finds comfort in knowing that, despite her imperfections, God knows her inside and out and is always there to help her. She believes He will guide her to fulfill her purpose, and one day she hopes to hear the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”

As Dedra reflects on her legacy, she envisions a future where her children and their descendants know and love God. “I want to leave a legacy that ensures my family understands who God is and embraces Jesus Christ as our Savior,” she says. Her hope is that through her efforts, generations after generations will come to know Christ, paving the way toward eternal life together in heaven.

Dedra Green is not just an employee at Santa Fe Christian Schools; she embodiesthe spirit of faith and community. Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
