Charles Johnson | Lead Manager | Client Engagement Workplace Group
What do you do?Â
I am currently a Lead Manager in our Client Engagement Workplace group. My teams are responsible for partnering with our retirement plan participants as they leave their employers and, in some cases, enter retirement. This is a critical stage of the retirement planning process as clients must decide what to what to do with their former employer sponsored retirement plan.Â
What do you love about your job?
My favorite part of the job is getting to help coach and develop people and watch them improve.  I’ve been in different people leadership roles since 2007, and there is always a new challenge since every individual has a unique background, perspective, and goals. Being able to develop relationships built on trust and provide clear and direct feedback are crucial to helping people overcome their deficiencies and advance in their careers.  Whether personally or professionally, it’s rare to find people in our lives who are willing to provide us unbiased critical feedback. Being able to do this for someone and watch them grow has been one of them most rewarding parts of my career.Â
What’s the biggest positive lesson you’ve learned in your career field?
Learning never ends. The financial industry, like many others, has been experiencing ever increasing change. Whether it be going back to get my MBA, taking on stretch assignments, or pursuing professional licenses and designations, ongoing learning has been crucial to progressing in my career.  Remaining flexible and seeking out new opportunities for growth is now an intentional focus for me.  Â
