Celebrating Chanté Chambers: A Beacon of Support in Our Community

Meet Chanté Chambers, a dedicated social worker and licensed agent who has become a pillar of strength in our community. With a deep commitment to advocating for patient rights and navigating the intricate world of Medicare and health plans, Chanté is transforming lives through care coordination and access to vital resources. Always seeking ways to uplift those around her, Chanté has woven a rich tapestry of support that resonates throughout our neighborhood.

Chanté began her path in the health sector several years ago, fueled by a desire to make a difference. “I wanted to be a voice for the voiceless, especially for those grappling with health concerns,” she explains. This passion propelled her into roles that emphasized care coordination, where she has since played a crucial role in helping individuals and families connect with the resources they need to manage their health effectively.

The Heart of Advocacy
What does Chanté love most about her role? “It’s the joy of seeing someone find hope, whether it’s understanding their health plan or simply feeling heard,” she shares. Her skills in empathy, communication, and organization have been instrumental in her success as a patient advocate. “Navigating health care can be overwhelming, and being able to simplify that for someone is incredibly rewarding,” she adds.

One of the most transformative pieces of advice Chanté received was, “Listen before speaking.” This principle emphasizes the importance of truly understanding individuals’ needs before offering solutions, a guideline she applies daily.

Keys to Success
When asked about the top three things that help people excel in her field, she emphasizes dedication, compassion, and resilience. “Each day brings new challenges, but staying committed to your mission, being kind, and bouncing back from setbacks can lead to significant impact,” she asserts.

Her journey hasn’t been without its struggles. Overcoming stigma associated with mental health, particularly in underserved communities, has been a formidable hurdle. Yet, these challenges have shaped her into a stronger advocate, helping her realize the profound impact one can have when armed with knowledge and empathy.

A Legacy of Impact
Among her proudest achievements is a community health fair that provided free resources to over 200 attendees last year. “Creating that space for people to learn about their health was amazing,” she reflects. Behind her success is a mentor who once told her, “You are more powerful than you know.” This message still resonates, encouraging her to harness her strengths and courageously advocate for those in need.

With dreams of leaving a legacy centered on compassion, empowerment, and connection, Chanté advises young people to “connect with what you are passionate about, and never underestimate how much you can affect someone’s life.” Through her unwavering dedication, Chanté Chambers not only uplifts individuals but also inspires the next generation to carry the torch of community connection and advocacy, shaping a healthier future for us all.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
