Celebrating Carlton Brown: A Community Champion

In every community, there are individuals whose hard work and dedication create a positive impact on the lives of others. One such person is Carlton H. Brown, a prominent figure in real estate and a passionate advocate for sustainable living. Nominated by an anonymous community member, Carlton’s impressive resume speaks volumes about his dedication to improving both housing solutions and community well-being.

Carlton earned his Bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and an Associate degree in Construction Management from Cuesta Community College. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career as a realtor and real estate investor. Currently, he serves as the Team Leader and Realtor at Team on Fire Academy, Inc., and is licensed as a manufactured home salesperson.

Furthering his commitment to social justice, Carlton founded the High Desert Realtist for Democracy in Housing, a chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), which works to provide equal housing opportunities for everyone. As an active member of NAREB since 2009, he has served on the Education Committee and was past president of the San Diego chapter. His commitment to education and advocacy has not only shaped his career but has also inspired many others to get involved in making housing accessible and fair.

As the President and CEO of Complete Home Buyers, LLC, Carlton takes pride in helping potential homeowners navigate the complexities of the real estate market. He ensures that home buyers of all backgrounds can achieve their dreams of home ownership. Carlton is also a lifelong entrepreneur, having established Green Sustainable Solutions & Consultants, which emphasizes his passion for energy-efficient building. He has obtained numerous certifications in green building practices, showcasing his commitment to protecting the environment.

Carlton’s advocacy doesn’t stop there; he founded Petrahouse, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing long-term sustainable housing solutions for vulnerable individuals and families. This work exemplifies his dedication to making a real difference in the lives of those who often go overlooked in our society. Through Petrahouse, Carlton is not just providing shelter; he is instilling hope and a sense of community in those who need it most.

On top of his professional achievements, Carlton has served as a Deacon at the Church of God in Christ in Southern California for over 35 years, embodying leadership and community service. His faith has been a guiding force in his efforts to uplift those around him.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
