Bruce Simon is a veteran who served 16 years in the Army as an Ammunition Logistics NCO. He has deployed twice to Iraq, twice to Afghanistan and once to Kuwait. Bruce is currently one of the owners of Faded & Braided Barbershop located in Colorado Springs. He has donated his personal time to give back to the community by giving to the Springs Mission Homeless Shelter. Has participated in the Christmas Cuts for Kids and Back to School Events which were both major successes in his community!! He has appeared on Fox 21 for feeding his community during Thanksgiving and is always looking for new and creative ways to give back. I would be more than honored to nominate Bruce Simon for all the work he has done for our community and will continue to do.

What area of your life has the military helped you grow the most in?

The military has had a major impact on my life. It’s taught me leadership, ethics, essential core values and most importantly how to apply all of these characteristics in my everyday life.

What is your perspective of patriotism?

Patriotism refers to the unconditional love and devotion that one has for one’s motherland and fellow countrymen. People who serve their country with this unconditional devotion and love are called patriots. Patriotism helps to promote integrity and brotherhood among the countrymen.

What was your experience transitioning from active duty to civilian life?

My transition from active duty to civilian life was smooth because I had a solid plan in place to ensure I was setup for success.

What do you do, post active duty?

I am the owner and operator of Faded & Braided Barbershop located in Colorado Springs, CO.

What advice would you give to others transition into civilian life?

To have a solid plan in place to ensure a smooth transition from military to civilian life. Make sure your financial affairs are in order and your resume is complete to send to employers for job searches. The military has programs in place to assist those transitioning that all members should take advantage of so the process is a smooth one.

What are things that people should consider before they decide to serve their country?

They should consider the sacrifices that have to be made while serving. Lost time that you can’t get back, missed birthdays, missed anniversaries etc…Everyone has their own reasons for joining the military, some join because of benefits, free education, or just the opportunity to travel and or learn a new skill set while serving their country. Whatever the reason it’s a commitment that should definitely be considered before deciding to raise your hand to enlist and serve our country.
