Celebrating Coach “Speedy” Anthony: A Champion for Our Young Athletes

In our community, one name stands tall in the world of sports and fitness—Brandon “Speedy” Anthony. Nominated by an anonymous member of the community, Coach Speedy has dedicated his life to empowering young athletes to reach their health and fitness goals, and he is making a profound impact in the process. As an Oceanside native, Speedy’s journey began with a passion for team sports that took him all the way to Northern Arizona University, where he earned a football scholarship. His time as a Division 1 football player helped him cultivate a strong foundation in fitness and athletics. However, an unexpected knee injury shifted his path, leading him to embrace a new calling as a personal trainer. “Once an athlete, always an athlete,” he says, embodying his belief that fitness extends beyond the playing field. With 15 years of experience, Speedy has established himself as a respected exercise specialist and strength and conditioning coach for specialized sports. His training style incorporates effective interval training methods, which focus on fat loss, muscle endurance, and getting clients in peak shape quickly. “No matter what age or body type, I can help you pursue your fitness goals,” he assures. This dedication is evident in his work with youth athletes, providing them the tools they need to excel in their chosen sports. Brandon’s expertise is not just limited to personal training; he also serves as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at El Camino and Fallbrook High Schools, where his influence can be felt among the next generation of athletes. In addition to these roles, he takes on responsibilities as the Track & Field Coach, specifically training long jumpers, and as an Assistant Football Coach for running backs. His ability to connect with young athletes and motivate them to push their limits is what makes him a beloved figure in the community. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and certifications from the National Council of Strength and Fitness (NCSF) and ACTION, Speedy combines knowledge with practical application. He is currently in pursuit of his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification, solidifying his expertise further. His specialized approach to personal training includes resistance circuit training, which not only maximizes exercise efficiency but also emphasizes maintaining a steady flow of energy—crucial for athletes. What makes Coach Speedy an exceptional mentor is his genuine investment in the well-being of his athletes. He believes that fitness is not just about physical prowess; it’s about building confidence and discipline that translates to all areas of life. Many of his former clients and athletes credit him for not only enhancing their physical performance but also teaching them essential life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. So, to all the middle schoolers and high schoolers in our community, if you’re looking to elevate your game, Coach “Speedy” Anthony is here to guide you every step of the way. With his energy, expertise, and unwavering support, he’s not just a trainer; he’s a coach who believes in your potential. Let’s get it, and remember, once an athlete, always an athlete!

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
