Celebrating Andrea Dixon: A Beacon of Community Spirit
Andrea earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Business Mid Management from San Diego Community College and furthered her education by completing a certificate program in Event Planning at San Diego State University. These academic achievements launched her into a successful ten-year career in the hospitality industry, where she worked as an Event Manager at the San Diego Convention Center and a Group Sales Manager at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. Her expertise in creating memorable events has not only impacted her career but also serves as a foundation for her community involvement.
Beyond her professional life, Andrea has made a significant imprint on her community. As a single mother raising her two children, she balanced her family responsibilities with her commitment to youth organizations. Her active participation on various boards and advisory committees at their schools showcased her dedication to nurturing the next generation. Notably, during the historic 2008 presidential campaign, Andrea volunteered as the Office Manager at the campaign headquarters for Barack Obama in Jacksonville, Florida, exemplifying her deep commitment to civic engagement.
Andrea’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. She has received multiple accolades, including a Recognition Certificate from the State of California Senate for Outstanding Community Service, the Kumba Fest Community Leadership Award, and The Monitor News Administrative Assistant of the Year award. These recognitions shine as a testament to her hard work and dedication.
When she is not busy uplifting her community, Andrea enjoys traveling, exploring live music, attending theater plays, and sporting events. She exhibits a flair for entertaining and loves planning incredible events for her friends and family. Her passion for community involvement goes hand-in-hand with her love for history, and she’s been fortunate enough to attend significant events such as the 2012 Presidential Inauguration and the dedication ceremonies for the Martin Luther King Jr. monument and The National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
Andrea’s family plays a significant role in her life. Together with her husband, Dwayne, a US Navy Veteran, they have two biological children, Carleton and Tiffini, along with two bonus sons, Dwayne II and Deven. Their family is completed with three grandchildren, DaiShaun, Alazah, and Jay’Lon, who undoubtedly benefit from Andrea’s loving guidance.
