Celebrating Almena Mozon: A Beacon of Empowerment in the Community

In today’s fast-paced world, it can sometimes feel overwhelming, but for Almena Mozon, a local psychologist and life coach, every day presents a new opportunity for growth and empowerment—both for herself and those around her. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a heart dedicated to service, Almena has become a fixture in the local community, particularly among the youth, who find inspiration in her story and her passion for helping others thrive.

Almena, who runs Aligned Life Coaching and Psychological Services, firmly believes that healthy time and money management strategies are essential for success. She knows firsthand the challenges that come with balancing family life and professional ambitions, and she uses her experiences to guide others. As a parent and spouse, Almena understands the delicate dance of nurturing both home and career, and she is eager to share her insights on how to navigate this journey effectively.

Her creative expressions—storytelling, singing, and theater—serve as powerful tools in her work. Almena believes that stories can heal, motivate, and inspire. Through her storytelling, she captivates audiences, encouraging young people to embrace their uniqueness while also exploring their potential. Almena’s involvement in the arts is not just a hobby but an integral part of her coaching philosophy, allowing her to connect with others on a deeper level.

Almena is driven by her core values: family, spirituality, and a commitment to helping others thrive. She actively mentors girls and young women, fostering confidence and resilience in a world that often challenges their self-worth. Whether she is speaking at events, teaching workshops, or simply sharing stories, she embodies the spirit of a community leader who genuinely cares about the growth of others.

Active in organizations like Delta Sigma Theta and New Song Community Church, Almena communicates the importance of unity and collaboration. She sees great potential in the local Black community, emphasizing its openness to new people and ideas. However, she recognizes that there is room for improvement, particularly when it comes to networking and sharing local resources among community members. Almena’s vision is clear: she aims to develop stronger ties within her community, paving the way for collective success.

As she evolves in her professional journey, Almena actively seeks to expand her knowledge through ongoing courses for license renewal. She speaks candidly about the demands of maintaining an effective practice, admitting that administrative support would significantly help her focus more on her clients and less on paperwork. Yet, her dedication remains steadfast as she continues to unapologetically pursue her dreams.

In a world that can sometimes feel disconnected, Almena Mozon stands out as a beacon of hope, embodying determination, creativity, and compassion. For high schoolers and middle schoolers, she is a role model who demonstrates that it’s possible to balance passion and purpose, all while lifting others as we climb. In Almena’s eyes, the journey is just as important as the destination, and she is determined to inspire the next generation to embrace their unique paths.

Why Did You Start My Black City?

A MESSAGE FROM BRANDON BORNES (FOUNDER OF MY BLACK CITY)

We often worry that we don’t have enough resources in our community to go around. When we see someone in our community doing what we do but better, we get a little nervous or intimidated. Instead of using competition to spur on our creativity, teamwork, work ethic and innovation, we become soo overwhelmed with our own fears and insecurities that we gossip, sabotage, or hurt one another. This has happened to many exceptional people in our community. We need to do better and lead by example. Our love for each other needs to be greater than our fear of failure.

If we had to simplify into one word what My Black City is about, it would be LOVE! Because Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

When people come in contact with our brand, that’s what I want them to experience. It‘s not an easy aspiration to live up to, but we believe it‘s worth fighting for and it‘s what we need as a community.
